The process for creating the series took quite a bit of time. With work and life hitting me 24/7 seemingly, time management was very important. Something I'm not so good at to be honest. Nevertheless, I began reviewing the original photos taken before as well as some minimalist digital paintings for reference.

    
  

Working from here, I began doing quick rough sketches. One thing I wanted to make sure I did not start to do was overthinking. Consistently referring to these images and others like them, keeping things simple and consistent was the goal. Here are some of the first draft sketches below.

 Deciding to focus on guided meditation to help overcome cluttered thoughts and mental issues in young adults was most fitting. The process to begin my exhibition began with finding my own peace. One day, I planned to go back home in Upper Marlboro, MD from Odenton, MD to visit the one main spot that I can now consider the inspiration of my "happy place". During this drive, I captured photos at numerous that I felt most connected and resembled with that place (a couple shown below).            I wanted to provide images that would appeal to the sense of hearing when viewing. Trying my best to help transport the viewer to either that location or one created in the mind when participating in my exhibition.

 Hi. My name is Derreq Player, a student completing my last semester at Bowie State University. It's honestly been a long time coming with just figuring out what I would do my senior exhibition on. Over and over I had seemingly great ideas and concepts, but that's all they were. I could never get to the next step of what I would actually be doing. All I wanted to do was take pictures so at least I knew photography would be a part of the overall show but of what purpose? Mental health over the years in college became more and more of a top level issue, reflecting in my everyday life in ways I was not aware of. To battle this, I slowly began doing some short guided meditation. I found that this worked best to clear my overly cluttered mind and bring some ease and relief to my life.
